Social Network Use Costs UK Economy £1.38bn

The Telegraph have reported that more than 50% of office workers use social networking sites during work hours. Furthermore, participants in a survey to determine social network use during work hours admitted to wasting an average of 40 minutes a week each communicating on sites like Twitter and Facebook. The report states that social networking is costing the UK economy an estimated £1.38bn annually.

There have been a number of social networking disasters for companies recently and The Telegraph reports that three quarters of those surveyed said that their employer had not given them any specific guidelines on how to use Twitter. 84 per cent of respondents believed it should be up to them what they post online.
