UK's digital index gathers new metrics

The UK's first digital index has collected new metrics in its study of the nation's digitisation. Consultancy, Deloitte, launched the project, which predicted online video use will jump 50 per cent in five years while interest in mobile TV will stagnate. The firm said it was important "companies using digital products and services as a channel to market should understand how and why their addressable market is growing". Currently, online video use is popular in 19 per cent of households, more than double the figure (eight per cent) of August 2007, although only one per cent of the population is tuned in to mobile TV. Analysts at Deloitte assessed 12 key metrics for tracking consumer take up of digital products and services. "Their analysis of broadband penetration reveals its growing impact on household behaviour," commented Francesco Caio, who is leading the government's review into the delivery of a next-generation broadband network.
